Artists Andio Lai and Tsang Hoi-yu went on a journey with soundpocket to San Francisco’s
Chinatown last fall. Over three wonderful weeks which they spent at 41 Ross, an arts space
located in the centre of this neighbourhood, Andio and Yu developed the scope of their
research, talked with locals and others from different countries about the background of their
projects, the weather, food, and more, and showcased their works and findings in an audience
sharing session in San Francisco.

Inspired by the telephone exchange system and history of train truck construction in San
Francisco’s Chinatown, Andio Lai Chung-man created an interactive installation with objects
collected from visitors he encountered during the open studio at 41 Ross. Combining the
collected objects with ready-made electronics, Andio explored different foundational
technologies of sound, and provided a playful experience of the playing of sound for the
audience.

With 41 Ross located in an alley where many visitors come for fortune cookies, Tsang Hoi-yu
tried to connect the visitors with Chinatown’s residents using the six lottery numbers printed on
the fortune cookie paper strip. With the stories of 69 Chinatown residents drawn on the wall of
41 Ross, visitors could obtain a self-guided route using their six lottery numbers, and start a
listening journey with the stories and people of San Francisco’s Chinatown.

In the upcoming DIALOGUE, Andio and Yu will share with us the ‘simple interactions’ that they
had at 41 Ross – from their own projects developed during the residency, the entirely
unexpected people they encountered, to the most amazing places they visited in the Fog City.
Photos and documentation taken by the artists and soundpocket will also be shown at Floating
Projects on the same day as this DIALOGUE. Join us for this cosy afternoon, grab a fortune

去年秋季，藝術家黎仲民與曾凱渝跟聲音掏腰包一同到訪三藩市華埠，並在位於華埠市中心的藝術空間 — 舊呂宋巷 41駐留了美好的三星期。在此期間，黎仲民與曾凱渝跟當地人和來自不同國家的人談及研究項目的背景、天氣、食物，以及更多的話題，並逐漸建構他們創作所研究的範圍，亦於分享會中展示了他們的作品和發現。

受三藩市的人手電話接駁系統以及鐵路建築歷史所啟發，黎仲民利用於舊呂宋巷 41 工作室開放期間所收集到的、由訪客所捐出的物品，製作了一組互動裝置。他結合收集到的物品與現成電子零件，以不同基礎科技探索聲音，為觀眾提供有趣的聲音經驗。

舊呂宋巷 41位於一條小巷裏，很多訪客都會來這裏買幸運曲奇，於是曾凱渝嘗試以幸運曲奇紙條上的六個彩票號碼連結訪客與華埠居民。她於舊呂宋巷 41 的牆上畫下 69 個華埠居民的故事，訪客可透過手上的六個彩票號碼取得一條自助導覽路線，展開一個有關三藩市華埠的故事和人的聆聽旅程。

在是次有偈傾活動中，黎仲民與曾凱渝將跟我們分享他們在舊呂宋巷 41 的「簡單交往」，當中包括他們在駐留期間發展的創作、完全沒預料會遇到的人，以及他們在這霧城探訪過最令人驚嘆的地方。藝術家與聲音掏腰包所拍攝的相片和駐留紀錄都將在有偈傾期間於據點。句點展示。來跟我們一起共渡這舒適的下午，拿一塊幸運曲奇，聆聽藝術家分享故事。
