Headphone is a private theatre which isolates people from the outside world. The development of digital technology makes sound portable, allows you to enter into a mood or atmosphere you enjoy at anytime and a scene created by the melodies of the song together with the movie settings.

This recorder carries two songs, they are Reality (1980) and Sound of Silence (1967), one from the French file La Boum, the other one from a local Hong Kong film Unbeatable. In both films, the two leading actresses put on headphones and listen to the songs. The audience also listens to the same song as if they had headphones on. The audience becomes part of the film and recalls the scene where the actresses listen to the songs with the headphones. You close your eyes, and the music loops.

The two songs recorded here are cover versions by the artist.

聽筒是一種隔絕外界的私人劇場，自數碼科技發展至能將聲音帶備身上隨時收聽，一個人就如同可以在任何時候自由選擇進入喜愛的氛圍，那從音樂，以至電影主題曲旋律所營造的場景。

這錄音筆儲存了兩首英文歌，《真實》 (Reality)與1967年的《寂靜之聲》 (Sound of Silence)，分別出現於法國電影《初吻》 (La Boum)及香港電影《激戰》 (Unbeatable)內。兩套影片都曾出現當女主角戴著聽筒時便響起歌曲的場景，而每當歌曲響起，就如透過聽筒將觀眾現場與日常的經驗聯繫一樣，成了戲中角色，亦提供往後再戴起聽筒聆聽相同歌曲時重疊的印象，霎眼重新記起情節，偶爾跟著哼著唱。

收錄的兩首歌均由藝術家本人翻唱而成。

We judge the value of a headphone by its price; we seemed to have forgotten that the materials, the room within the headphone and its design also affect the sound qualities.

By looking at its function, Shuang Si looks only like a pair of speakers made from headphones; but if you could listen carefully using Shuang Si, you will notice the amazing changes in sound qualities in different settings. “Let’s think about what sound is through these simple double channels!”

當人們選擇耳機時，總會以包裝盒上的客觀數值作為比較，但我們好像忘了聲音的差異並不在於那些數值。透過物料、物件的空間、形態這些因素亦能令聲音產生不同的變異。

從功能層面上，《雙思》好像是把耳機改造成一對小型的揚聲器。但只要你細心聆聽，你便能發現《雙思》在不同設定下, 聲音的微妙變化。

There is very little music that is absolutely absolute is, at its core, a private sound performance realized for one person only, conceived for and accomplished at the 2013 benefit event of Hong Kong sound art organization soundpocket.

The “work” in its totality is consisted of the following:
(1) A live sound performance of a non-specific duration by the artist, to be listened to through the headphone by the patron, inside of a large reverberant space. This performance is to be attended only by the artist and the patron. The procedures of the performance will be archived, the sonic content of the performance however will not be documented, and the artist is committed to never realizing this performance again in the aftermath of the event;

(2) The patron’s contribution: the patron is obliged to retell in words, from memory, the auditory experience of the performance immediately after the event, at one month after the event, at six months after the event, and on the same day of the year every year until a mutually agreed upon end day (to be decided at the conclusion of the performance), or until either the artist or the patron is deceased. This retelling may take the form of written notes, and/or phone conversation to be recorded and/or transcribed;

(3) A hand-written contract that details the procedures of the performance and the terms of engagement;
(4) Video and photo documentations of the event;
(5) The headphone used during the performance;
(6) The financial transaction between the patron and soundpocket.

Editions: 1 set of unique artifacts + 1 set of not-for-sale artist prototype. Price: Performance fee is set at US$4000, but the patron may contribute more as she/he sees fit.
